The Northwood baseball team cruised past Florida Memorial in a non-conference double header on Wednesday afternoon. The Seahawks took both games by an identical 9-1 scores.
Gabby Mundo led the bottom of the first off with a single to left center before moving up to second on a Carlos Contreras single to left field. With two outs, Keivan Berges cleared the bases with a three run homer to right field taking a 3-0 lead. Brandon Crawford then singled and advanced to second on a passed ball and to third on a wild pitch. Damian Boyum pushed the final run of the inning across with an error by the third basemen leading 4-0.
The Seahawks extended their lead to 5-0 in the third off an RBI single by Casey Mullennix platting Boyum who led the inning off with a walk before stealing second. Florida Memorial got on the board in the fourth inning cutting it to 5-1, but the Seahawks responded with two runs in fourth inning.
Mundo again led the inning off with a single and scoring on a sacrifice fly to left field by Contreeras making it 6-1. Berges pushed Jesus Fuenmayor across for the final run of the inning taking a 7-1 lead into the fifth inning. Boyum and Mullenix brought in a pair of runs inthe  sixth winning the game 9-1.
Patrick Barrington picked up the win striking out five over five innings. Berges led the way at the plate with four runs batted in, while Mundo had three hits.
A scoreless game two until Northwood broke the game open with seven runs in the third inning. Jonathan Cata drove in Mullenix who led off the inning with a double for the 1-0 lead. Four miscues by the Lions pitchers pushed four runs across making it 5-0. Mullennix singled to left field driving in the final two runs of the inning extending the margin to 7-0.
Berges made it 9-0 with his second home run on the day, this time to left field extending their lead to 9-0. The Lions broke the scoreless drought with a run in the sixth inning falling in the game 9-1.
Jackson McDonald picked up his first win of the season striking out six over five innings of work. Mullennix led the way with two hits.
"It was a good couple games for us, said Head Coach Jeremy Kennedy. I thought we stayed pretty disciplined when they were struggling to throw strikes. Pat and Jackson did a good job for us on the mound."
With the victories on the day, Northwood improves to 7-4 overall. The Seahawks return to action on the road Friday when they travel to Southeastern for a three game conference series. Friday's game will begin at 4:00 p.m.
