The men's basketball team held off Warner on Wednesday evening for a 79-74 victory on the road. The Seahawks move to 16-11 overall and 8-8 in Sun Conference play.
Northwood's Marcus Hardy scored the first five points helping take an early 7-3 lead before Warner came back knotting the game up at 9-9 with 12:01 showing. A Hardy and Chris Solomon basket pushed the lead to 13-9 when the Royals took their first lead of the game at 18-16 with 7:38 remaining. The Seahawks responded with a Chris Lee jumper starting a 6-0 run retaking a 24-20 advantage at the 3:53 mark. Northwood went on to take a 28-25 lead into the intermission.
The Seahawks started the half on a 9-4 run forcing their opponents into an early timeout leading 37-29 with 18:14 left in regulation. Warner got to within 41-37 when a Hardy jumper started a 12-4 run giving Northwood their largest lead of the game of 53-41 with 10:48 remaining. The Royals continued chipping away at the lead getting to as close as 67-65 with 3:34 left. However, the Seahawks answered with a 10-3 run for a 77-68 advantage and held on for a 79-74 victory.
Solomon led the way with 19 points, while Fred Mattison had 18 and Hardy with 13. Ian Umpierre had team high six assists, while Chris Lee had nine rebounds off the bench.
Northwood returns to action on the road Thursday when they travel to Ave Maria for a 7:00 tipoff.
