The Northwood women's tennis kicked off their spring season today against Division 1 opponent Stetson University. The Seahawks lost all three doubles, and five of the singles competitions.
In doubles, Adelaide Wood and Valentina Souki fell in a close 8-6 match and Matilde Thibadult and Rocia dropped a tough 8-5 decision in the second spot.
Julia Cusumano picked up the lone win of the day in six singles by winning 6-4, 6-0.
"Our lady Seahawks fought hard today against NCAA Division 1 opponent Stetson," said Head Coach Keith Robinson. "We knew going in that we faced a tough test and we answered with a spirited fight." "We had chances at 1&2 doubles losing 8-6 & 8-5 respectively." "Our Seahawks held their own in singles showing their was a very narrow gap between us and D1 tennis. " "Julia Cusumano was the only player to capture a win with 6-4 6-0 win at #6.
The Seahawks return to the court on Friday when they welcome Lynn. The match is set for 1:00 p.m. at Gaines Park Community Center.
