The Keiser University women's basketball team used a big first and fourth quarter to defeat Ave Maria 62-56 on Wednesday evening. The Seahawks picked up their first Sun Conference win of the year and stand at 4-4 overall and 1-1 in TSC play.
How it Happened- The Seahawks faced their largest deficit of 56-50 with 3:44 left in the game, when a Desirai Smith bucket started a 12-0 run to end the contest, winning 62-56.
- A floater in the paint by Claudia Reque with 34 seconds left was the eventual game winner for Keiser.
- Ave Maria didn't take their first lead of the game until the third quarter with 45 seconds to go at 43-41 and led 45-41 heading into the fourth.
- Keiser led 10-8, when a Courtney Murphy jumper started a 14-2 run capped by a Dominique Winbush basket extending their lead to 24-10 with 8:48 left in the second quarter.
- The Seahawks led 31-23 heading into the halftime break.

Coaches Corner"I felt at time we let down our guard and allowed Ave to come back and punch us in the jaw during the second and third quarters," said Head Coach
Pam Oswald. "It wasn't always pretty at times that's for sure. I will give our kids credit that they really dug in the last three minutes and fought hard for that win all the way till the buzzer sounded."
