The Keiser University men's soccer team shutout Johnson & Wales 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the Sun Conference Tournament. The Seahawks avenged their 2-0 loss at the hands of the Wildcats just last week.
Jesse Alves got Keiser on the board in 22nd minute off an assist by
Emil Huovinen taking a 1-0 lead.
Shoval Failer,
Callum Sinclair and
Alessandra Giammattei all had scoring opportunities but their shots were saved.
Johnson & Wales had a prime scoring opportunity with a minute left but the Keiser defense cleared the ball off the line heading into the break up one.
In the opening minutes of the new half, Huovinen had great chance but his shot was saved. The Seahawks defense went on to limit the Wildcats to just two shots preserving the 1-0 victory.
Keiser held a 15-12 advantage in shots, with a 7-5 edge on shots on goal. Failer and Alves led the way with three shots apiece.
Luke Edgecombe made four saves in goal.
The Seahawks advance to the Sun Conference semifinals on Saturday afternoon at #1 seed Southeastern University. The Fire came out on top 1-0 in the previous meeting of the two squads. The kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
