The Keiser University men's soccer team suffered a hard fought 3-2 setback against #8 Thomas University on Sunday afternoon.
Thomas got on the board in the 12th minute scoring on a long through ball for the early 1-0 advantage. The Seahawks responded three minutes later, when
Liam Gourlay headed in a corner taken by
Thomas Dawson knotting it at 1-1.
In the 34th minute,
Shoval Failer played a long through ball that
Tommy Tigwell lasered past the Thomas goalkeeper for a 2-1 lead.
The Night Hawks were on the receiving end of a Seahawks miscue resulting in an own goal tying the game at 2-2 in the 51st minute. Thomas went back ahead at 3-2 in the 74th minute when a long free kick went over the defense and buried into the back of the net.
Thomas Dawson had a chance to equalize late in the 89th minute but his shot went off the post and then corralled by the Night Hawks defense holding on for the win.
Thomas held a slim 11-9 advantage on shots, while Keiser held a 5-1 edge on corners.
Adil Iich and Dawson led the way with two shots apiece.
Vinnie Cainth took the loss in goal despite making four saves.
With the setback, the Seahawks move to 5-7-1 overall, and 4-2 in Sun Conference play. Keiser returns to the pitch on Thursday traveling to defending NCAA Division II National Champions Lynn University. The kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
