The Northwood softball team fell in both games of their season opener to #25 Taylor at home on Wednesday afternoon. The Seahawks dropped the first game 10-3 before the second one 6-0.
In game one, Taylor jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first before the home team got a run back in the bottom half of the inning. Shanah Thomas started the season off with a walk before Ryleigh Williams singled. A passed ball moved both runners up a base before a Cassidy Miller RBI ground out made it 5-1.
The Trojans tacked on a run in the second and two in third making it 8-1. In the bottom half of the third Kylie Waters and Shanah Thomas both walked setting up a two run RBI single by Alyssa Cabral cutting the margin to 8-3. However Taylor regained two runs in the fourth and went on for a 10-3 win.
Nicole Granitto went the distance on the mound despite picking up the loss.
The second game was all Taylor with them going on to win 6-0. Northwood only managed three hits by R. Williams, Allie Catapano, and Kylie Waters. Anne Diercks pitched a complete second game striking out three batters.
Head coach Chelsea Nowell said, "Obviously I'm not happy with the results, but we played hard today." "We now have two weeks to improve what needs to be fixed."
Northwood returns to the field at home on Friday February 13 with a doubleheader against Edward Waters. The games are set for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
