#3 Men's Basketball Snaps Skid With 73-54 Win Over Concordia Canada

WEST PALM BEACH, FL.—The #3 Northwood University men's basketball team snapped their three game skid on Friday evening with a 73-54 win over Concordia Canada. The Seahawks used a big second half outscoring their opponents 42-27, breaking open a five point lead at the half.

In the opening nine minutes of the game, the Seahawks held a four point advantage, until the Stingers got to within 16-15 at the 11:08 mark. However, a Chris Solomon three pointer started a 10-2 run, that was capped off by a Fred Mattison jumper, pushing out to their largest lead of the half at 27-17 with 4:26 remaining in the half. Concordia Canada trimmed the margin down to 31-27 heading into the break.

The Stingers started the second half getting to within a possession at 35-32, when the Seahawks broke open the game. A Solomon three pointer started a ten minute stretch where Northwood outscored their opponents 27-10 taking their largest lead of the game at 62-42 with 6:28 on the clock. During the stretch Solomon scored 15 points, while Kevin McDuffie chipped in seven. The Seahawks held off Concordia Canada during the remainder of the game, coming away with the 73-54 win.

In the game, the Seahawks held a 39-35 edge on the boards led by Mattison with 11. Solomon had a game high 26 points, and Mattison contributed 17 to complete his double-double. Ian Umpierre had a game high six assists.

The Seahawks conclude their non-conference portion of their schedule tomorrow when they rematch with Florida National. In their previous meeting, Northwood came out on top 100-89 in overtime. The tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
