WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Northwood University(Fla.) volleyball team struggled to find consistency throughout the match and were unable to seize momentum as visiting Embry-Riddle swept the Lady Seahawks in three sets(14-25, 16-25, 21-25) in a Sun Conference matchup at the Countess de Hoernle Student Life Center on Friday evening.
The Lady Seahawks committed 20 errors in the match while registering 27 kills.
"They are a good team and we can not give them any points," Lady Seahawks head coach Chris Taylor said. "We have to make them earn them."
Nikki McKown led the Seahawks offensively with nine kills and seven digs. Sydney Fish tallied six kills, four digs, and two aces. Nicole Papineau contributed with 22 assists while adding one ace. Anni Polscher added nine digs for the Lady Seahawks in the loss.
The Lady Seahawks competed in the first set and had the match tied 10-10 before the Eagles pulled away. Northwood trailed 14-11 in the second set before the Eagles(5-6) again were able to put together a run to take a commanding lead. The Lady Seahawks rallied in the third set with five consecutive points late in the match, but the Eagles were able to hold them off.
"We came out and played with a lot of energy in every set and played with them at the start of every set," Taylor said. "Overall, I liked how we played and how we improved with each set.
The Lady Seahawks(8-7) will look to bounce back as they host Southeastern(Fla.) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
"If we come out and play with the same energy level that we showed today, we know good things will happen," Taylor said. "We are looking forward to getting back on the court to see what we can do."
