Women's Soccer Falls in Final Four to Lindsey Wilson 2-1 in Overtime

ORANGE BEACH, Al.---The Northwood University women's soccer season came to end on Friday afternoon in the final four when they fell to Lindsey Wilson 2-1 in overtime. This is the second straight season that the Seahawks have advanced to this stage.

The Seahawks got on the scoreboard early with a fourth minute goal by Johanna Engberg. Stinne Laursen took a free kick and it was flicked on by Erin Wells and landed on the foot of Engberg who blasted the ball from deep in the box for the 1-0 advantage. Lindsey Wilson was able to tie the game at 1-1 in the 39th minute off a corner kick. The score stayed tied going into the break.

Both teams then played strong defense for 35 minutes of the second of the half, before Matilda Hjalte had to make two consecutive saves in the 85th minute to preserve the tie. The Seahawks and Blue Raiders would remain tied with the game heading into overtime.

In the first overtime, Lindsey Wilson was able to grab the victory after an intial save by Hjalte fell to the foot of a Blue Raider who put the ball away for the 2-1 win.

Engberg led the way with two shots, while Amy Vaughan and Wells had one shot apiece. Hjalte made ten saves in goal.

"I am very proud of the team and happy with how we have played at the tournament, said head coach Mat Dunn." "We are disappointed to go out in overtime, but we were able to prove a lot of people wrong about us."

Hjalte and Engberg were honored on the National Championship All-Tournament Team.

The Seahawks conclude their 2014 season with a 17-6-2 overall record.
