WEST PALM BEACH, FL.---The Northwood University women's basketball team fell 68-52 against Cornerstone in their opener of the Hyatt New Year's Classic on Monday afternoon. The Seahawks drop to 2-6 overall on the season.

In the first half, Cornerstone controlled the first eight minutes, before Dana Gildea hit a three pointer sparking a 16-5 run over six minutes, getting to within 20-16 with 6:40 on the clock. The Seahawks did not get any closer, trailing 36-23 going into the half. Gildea hit four shots from behind the arc for 12 points.

The second half was controlled by Cornerstone until the last six minutes of the game. The last six minutes saw the Seahawks close the game on a 17-2 run falling 68-52.

Gildea led the way with 18 points on six three ponters, while Lakeisha Blanson had 11 points. Emily had a team high four assists, and Claudia Reque and Mallory Burton had six rebounds apiece.

The Seahawks continue the classic tomorrow when they take on Avila University tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.
