#3 Men's Basketball Suffer 86-70 Setback Against Concordia Nebraska

WEST PALM BEACH, FL.---The #3 Seahawks men's basketball team suffered their second straight loss with a 86-70 setback on Monday night against Concordia Nebraska.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 14-6 lead, before Fred Mattison sparked a 6-0 run, getting within 14-12 with 15:01 left in the first half. Concorida Nebraska answered right back pushing out to a 24-15 margin, but a three pointer by Malte Ziegenhagen started a 5-0 run making it 24-20 with 8:07 on the clock. However, the Bulldogs controlled the remainder of the half, taking a 46-28 lead into the locker room. Mattison led the way in the half with six points and eight rebounds.

Ian Umpierre scored the first four Northwood points in the second half making it 49-32. Over the next six minutes, the Bulldogs built on their lead pushing out to a 58-36 advantage with 14:09 remaining. A Julian Smith layup got a 10-2 run going that was capped off by a Mattison jumper making it 60-46 at 11:43. Again, the Bulldogs responded taking a 68-50 lead, but the Seahawks made one last run cutting the deficit to 68-57 with a 7-0 run. In the end, Northwood could not close the gap and fell by a final of 86-70.

Mattison led the way with 22 points, and 13 rebounds. Ziegenhagen also recorded double digits with 14 points and four steals, while Umpierre had 12 points, six steals, and six assists.

With the loss, Northwood falls to 7-2 overall on the season. The Seahawks return to the court tomorrow against #4 Dakota Wesleyan at 7:00 p.m. to conclude the Dick Versace Holiday Classic.
