WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Northwood University (Fla.) women's soccer team defeated SCAD 3-1 to win The Sun Conference Championship on Friday.
The Lady Seahawks received an automatic bid to the Women's Soccer NAIA National Soccer Tournament.
Johanna Engberg scored two goals and Amy Vaughan scored the go-ahead goal in the second half to lead the team.
Engberg opened the scoring in the first half with the first goal of the game, but SCAD responded back to tie the score entering halftime.
Vaughan gave the Seahawks a 2-1 lead midway through the second half after scoring in the SCAD box.
Engberg's penalty kick goal with less than a minute remaining in the contest sealed the victory.
The No. 1 seeded Lady Seahawks also defeated the No. 2 seeded Lady Bees 3-2 in double overtime in earlier in the season.
The Lady Seahawks will play in the opening round of the NAIA National Soccer Tournament on Saturday, November 22. The time of the game and site is still to be determined.
