WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Northwood University men's soccer team battled in a back-and-forth match with a feisty Warner University squad as the two teams eventually played to a 1-1 tie in a Sun Conference game on Wednesday at Arrigo-Veceillo Field.
The Seahawks had registered two shutouts in their first two conference games played and were poised for another win, but the Royals responded late in regulation to force overtime.
The Seahawks were called for a handball, which resulted in a penalty kick for the Royals. Bruno Da Silva scored the game-tying goal with 1:47 left in the contest.
The Seahawks had scored with 5:06 left in the first half on a penalty kick. Mark Hanlon struck the ball into the left corner of the net to give the Seahawks a 1-0 advantage.
Mark Dawson had a stellar performance in net for the Seahawks, turning away multiple shots in the two overtimes after the Royals generated quality scoring chances.
The Seahawks were unable to capitalize on scoring chances off corner kicks across the two overtimes.
The Seahawks are at 4-2-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the Sun Conference and have been unbeaten in their last three games played.
Meanwhile, the Royals hold a 3-6-1 overall record and a 1-3-1 mark in conference play.
The Seahawks return to the field for a Sun Conference matchup as they visit Webber International on Saturday, October 11 at 3:30 p.m.
