WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Northwood University(Fla.) men's soccer team battled into double overtime, but eventually fell in a hard-fought game 2-1 to host Florida Memorial in a Sun Conference matchup on Monday.
The game was scoreless entering the second half before Florida Memorial took the lead. The Seahawks responded as Mark Hanlon scored the game-tying goal on an assist by Calum Denham.
Florida Memorial scored on a quick counter breakaway in the 102nd minute in double overtime for the victory.
"We played hard and determined while being short several key players,"Seahawks men's soccer coach Joe Zakowicz said. "We really competed well all things considered. This loss hurts. We are pretty beat up with injuries right now so it's important to dig in deeper and find ways to win or get results from these games."
The Seahawks were coming off a 1-0 win against St. Thomas and were unbeaten in six of their last seven contests entering the road game with Florida Memorial. It was just the second time the Seahawks had lost a conference game this season.
The Seahawks men's soccer team dropped to 6-4-2 overall and 4-2-2 in the Sun Conference.
The Seahawks have two games remaining in the regular season and both at their home campus.
The Seahwks will host Johnson & Wales(FL) on Wednesday, October 29 at 3 p.m. The Seahawks will close the regular season hosting Embry-Riddle on Saturday, November 1 at 2 p.m.
