No. 6 Keiser women's lacrosse (4-1) put on a dominant display at home, routing visiting Lawrence Tech (3-3) 18-4 in a lopsided affair that was never really in doubt.
Keiser wasted no time setting the tone as
MacKenzie Gibaud opened the scoring at 9:57 of the first quarter. Following a turnover, Gibaud forced a turnover by the Blue Devils near the net and quickly foundÂ
Jia Schweigert who finished the chance. She struck again just seconds later on a spin move to make it 3-0 heading into the second.
If the first quarter established Keiser's dominance, the second made it a rout.
Emily McCall opened the scoring at 12:23, and then
Milena Isturiz found the net twice in the span of 12 seconds to stretch the lead to 6-0 and force a Lawrence Tech timeout. The Blue Devils briefly responded with an Alyson Walendzak power-play goal, but Keiser answered right back as Gibaud converted twice more on the man advantage and
Tess Geiger tacked on another off a Schweigert feed to push the lead to 10-1. Walendzak added a second power-play goal late, but Keiser went into halftime firmly in control at 10-2.Â
Vrensen scored just 32 seconds into the third off a
Kate Griffin draw control to make it 11-2, and the assault continued from there. Vrensen added her second of the quarter off a McCall assist, McCall then converted a free position shot herself, and
Emily Ferris finished a Griffin feed to extend the lead to 14-2. Geiger added yet another to make it 15-2 before Lawrence Tech got a late consolation goal from Bella Louwerse to make it 15-3 going into the fourth.
Samantha Crowther started the period in net as Keiser continued to pour it on. McCall struck again at 10:26, then set up Beth Leeder's power-play conversion two minutes later to make it 17-3.
Malea Blackmore capped the scoring with her first goal of the season as Keiser cruised to the 18-4 win.
Keiser's will have a quick turnaround as they welcome Division III Calvin on Friday. The opening draw control from the Multi-Purpose Field is set for 5:00 p.m.
