Space Coast Spring Games | Viera, Fla.

VIERA, Fla. – The No. 14 Keiser University softball team swept another doubleheader Tuesday, shutting out Nelson University-Arizona 2-0 in the opener before rolling past Lourdes 7-1 in the nightcap to push their record to 22-2 on the season.

Game One was a pitcher's duel from start to finish. Seahawks managed just seven hits but made the only two that mattered count, plating a pair of runs in the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie and give Keiser enough to win. Kaci Kidd led the offense with a 2-for-4 day including a double and an RBI, while Faith Campos also went 2-for-4 to keep things moving at the top of the lineup. Mackenzie Masternak was brilliant in the circle, throwing all seven innings and limiting Nelson to three hits while striking out three to earn the win and improve to 12-1 on the season.

The nightcap was far less suspenseful. Keiser came out swinging, plating four runs in the first inning and never looking back, adding two more in the second and one in the third to build a 7-0 lead before Lourdes scratched across a run in the fifth. Genesis Iglesias provided the big blow of the game, launching a two-run home run to highlight the early offensive onslaught. Jordan Brantley scored twice and added a double, and Sarah Phipps and Ava Stahl each drove in a run as well. Olivia Solerno started and was sharp through three innings, allowing just two hits without giving up a run to earn the win and improve to 3-0. Presley Wright worked the next three innings before Kennedy Griggs closed out the final frame to finish off the 7-1 victory.

Game Notes

  • Keiser improved to 22-2 on the season with the sweep, winning their seventh consecutive doubleheader dating back to the start of the Space Coast Spring Games.
  • Mackenzie Masternak threw a complete game shutout in Game One, working all seven innings and allowing just three hits while striking out three and walking one. She improves to 12-1 on the season.
  • Kaci Kidd paced the Game One offense, going 2-for-4 with a double and the game's only RBI. It was a modest but critical contribution in what was a tight, low-scoring game throughout.
  • Faith Campos also went 2-for-4 in the opener, continuing a consistent stretch at the plate. She now has 23 hits on the season and is batting .343.
  • Genesis Iglesias hit a two-run home run in Game Two to provide the biggest extra-base hit of the nightcap. The blast pushed her season home run total to five and kept her RBI pace among the best on the team.
  • Keiser scored four runs in the first inning of Game Two and led wire-to-wire, setting the tone early and forcing Lourdes to play from behind for virtually the entire game.
  • Olivia Solerno improved to 3-0 on the season after throwing three shutout innings in the nightcap, allowing just two hits and no walks while striking out three. She now owns a 0.89 ERA on the season.
  • Jordan Brantley scored twice and added a double in Game Two, providing a spark out of the lower third of the order and contributing to what was a well-distributed offensive effort across the lineup.
  • Keiser committed zero errors in both games, giving them a clean defensive day and extending what has been one of the sharper defensive stretches of the season.
  • Kennedy Griggs made an appearance in Game Two, working the seventh inning in relief. It is the first appearance of her name in the box score this season for the Seahawks.
  • Keiser combined for 19 hits and nine runs across both games while holding their opponents to a combined one run, continuing to be one of the most dominant teams on both sides of the ball in NAIA softball.
  • With the sweep, Keiser has now gone 8-0 at the Space Coast Spring Games, outscoring opponents by a wide margin across the tournament while allowing a combined total of just a handful of runs throughout the week.
