No. 3 Keiser men's tennis opened their NAIA National Tournament run with a 4-0 sweep of No. 14 Grace in the second round on Wednesday afternoon. It was the second consecutive season that the Seahawks knocked out the Lancers at the tournament. The Seahawks dominated on courts two and three in doubles to take the early lead. KU would continue their strong play into singles with wins on courts one, three, and five.

  • Shaheed Alam and Simone Boscatto opened the match with a 6-0 win over Luis Cordoba and Benjamine Rahine on court three
  • No. 21 Yassir Kilani and Mathieu Strauss followed with a 6-1 win over Artur Pons Medina and Manuel Marques on court one
  • On court one, the Lancers were leading 3-2 when the doubles point was clinched

singles
  • Felipe Rivadeneira was locked in on court three and it showed in his 6-0, 6-3 win over No. 35 Artur Pons Medina
  • On court one, No. 41 Kilani bested No. 21 Pablo Gregori 6-3, 6-4 to put Keiser within a point of finishing
  • Gilad Tamar wrapped up the match on court five, winning 6-3, 6-2 over Rahine to clinch the match
  • No. 3 Alam was up a set and leading 5-2 in the second while Strauss and Heber Santos were just getting into their second sets after winning the first

Coach's Corner

When asked about today's result, Head Coach Robert McAdoo had this to say: "The guys did what they had to do to move on to the next round. In my eyes, we still need to play better. I expect us to play better tomorrow. I have high expectations, the team has high expectations. We will play better tomorrow."

The Seahawks advance to the NAIA Quarterfinals where they will take on No. 11 University of Northwestern Ohio on Thursday, May 15. First serve from the Mobile Tennis Center is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. CT.
