No. 1 Women's Lacrosse Goes Big on Senior Day, Defeating Warner 24-2

Location: Multi-Purpose Field - West Palm Beach, Fla. 

No. 1 Keiser women's lacrosse dominated on senior day Thursday night, defeating the Warner Royals 24-2. The Seahawks were led by seniors Peyton Tomlinson and Samantha Esher who each had four goals in the game. Milena Isturiz and Kate Griffin finished just behind the pair with three goals each. Victoria Francisco led KU in assists on the evening with four. On the defensive end, senior Hayley Frew led the Seahawks with four caused turnovers. Senior Cassidy Green got the win in goal with four saves on the day. 

Keiser will be back for their final home game of the season on Thursday, April 10, when they face (rv) Ave Maria. The opening draw control from the Multi-Purpose Field in West Palm Beach, Fla. is set for 4:00 p.m.

First Quarter
Keiser 10, Warner 1
  • It was senior Peyton Tomlinson who got the scoring started with a left-hander on the left side with 11:41 on the clock
  • Warner would quickly make their way down to the other end and tie the game one minute later
  • With 9:22 showing, Baylee Walker would pass her free position attempt to Hayley Frew, who put Keiser back in front
  • Nearly 90 seconds later, Walker found Tomlinson cutting, who easily scored her second of the game
  • The run was on, and the Seahawks were running as MacKenzie Gibaud went the distance to score her first and make it 4-1
  • Milena Isturiz and Kate Griffin worked a two-man game with 6:22 showing as Griffin beat the keeper to the far-side post
  • Off a turnover with less than five minutes on the clock, Jia Schweigert found Samantha Esher open in front of goal who made it 6-1 to KU
  • Griffin tallied another with 3:46 to play to put the Seahawks ahead 7-1
  • In the final two minutes, Keiser would tack on three more with Gibaud, Walker, and Tomlinson all scoring to make it 10-1 after the first

Second Quarter
Keiser 15, Warner 2
  • Bailey Dykes was able to get on the board for the Royals early in the second to make it 10-2
  • On the other end, Emily McCall found Jordyn Payne who scored to make it 11-2 with 13:04 on the clock
  • Isabelle Vrensen and Emily Ferris were next to tally goals for the Seahawks as Keiser began to pull away
  • Tomlinson and Schweigert would each add one more going into the break as Keiser went up by 13


Third Quarter
Keiser 20, Warner 2
  • Esher decided she was going to take over the scoring from there with three of the next four Keiser goals as the Seahawks went up by 17 midway through the third
  • McCall also added another to make it 20-2 going into the final 15 minutes

Fourth Quarter
Keiser 24, Warner 2
  • Isturiz tallied the first two goals of the fourth as Keiser went up by 20 with 11 minutes still to play
  • Vrensen would get her second of the day before a fortunate bounce for Griffin would net her third goal and the final goal of the game

Game Notes
  • Keiser moves to 13-0 on the year with the win
  • The Seahawks control their own destiny in the Sun Conference with two games to play and KU sitting at 5-0
  • Tomlinson tied her career high of four goals for the second time this season after setting it earlier in the year
  • For Esher, it is the fourth time she has tallied four goals in a game with the Seahawks
  • With an additional two assists, Tomlinson topped the points leaderboard with six, just in front of Gibaud, who finished with five
  • The 17 assists by the Seahawks tied for the second-most in program history 
  • Francisco led all Keiser players with four assists on the evening
  • Nine different players were credited with an assist in the game for KU
  • On the defensive side of the ball, Frew was all over the field with a team-high four caused turnovers
  • Erin Martin led the Seahawks with a career-high four groundballs
  • In the circle, Tomlinson and Griffin dominated the night with nine draw controls between the pair
  • Cassidy Green got the start and the win with four saves in the game
