No. 3 women's lacrosse opened their 2024 season in dominant fashion, defeating the (rv) St. Thomas Bobcats 20-8 in Miami Gardens, Fla.
Chloe Foley led the way for the Seahawks with five goals and three assists.
Abbey Cannon also notched a hat trick on the day with three goals on five shots.
Keiser 7, St. Thomas 1
- Keiser scored on their opening possession with Hayley Frew putting away a free position shot less than a minute into the game.
- St. Thomas would get one back on the other end with Kaitlyn Chmelir scoring.
- The ensuing possession for KU would see Chloe Foley get her first of the season, working from around the back of the net.
- The goal would start a 6-0 run for the Seahawks with Kamille Thomas, Abbey Cannon, Carly Chretien, and Emily McCall all scoring before Milena Isturiz put the final touches on the quarter with a backhand goal to make it 7-1.
Keiser 13, St. Thomas 4
- Following an early goal for the Bobcats in the second, Thomas and Foley would net back-to-back goals for Keiser approaching the 10-minute mark.
- Chmelir would finish her hat trick for STU just before Foley scored her third of the game on the other side of the field to make it 10-3.
- St. Thomas cut the lead to six before Chretien found Cannon who beat the keeper with a bouncing shot.
- Less than a minute later, Cannon would assist Sydney Passaro who slotted her shot into the top left corner of the net with 2:11 left in the half.
- Chretien would score the final goal of the quarter with 1:47 left to make it 13-4 as Margaret Wroe made a big save with time running out on the half.
Keiser 17, St. Thomas 8
- Three minutes into the third, Frew's shot was saved before she scooped up the ground ball and shot again, putting Keiser up 10, 14-4.
- The Seahawks would win the draw control with Frew finding MacKenzie Gibaud for her first of the season.
- The firsts would continue as Emily Ferris found Lucy Single in front of the net who beat the keeper for her first career goal and Ferris' first career assist.
- St. Thomas rattled off the next three goals of the game, bringing the score to 16-7 with under three minutes to play in the third.
- Foley put KU back up by 10 with a rocket into the top right corner of the net at the 1:42 mark.
- STU went on to score the final goal of the period to make it 17-8 going into the final 15 minutes.
Keiser 20, St. Thomas 8
- McCall scored the opening goal of the fourth quarter nearly five minutes into the final period.
- Cannon and Foley would assist each other's goals in the final quarter as Keiser cruised to a 20-8 win.
- 9: Wroe made nine saves for KU between the sticks.
- 8: Foley registered eight points to lead all players on the afternoon.
- 7: Seven players made their debut for the Seahawks on Tuesday.
- 6: Frew was a dominant force in the circle, taking six draw controls and leading the team with six groundballs.
- 3: Cannon tallied her fourth career game of three goals.
- 2: McCall, Isturiz, and Frew were all credited with two caused turnovers.
