Swogger Named SUN Athletic Director of the Year

Keiser Director of Athletics Kris Swogger has been named the 2022-23 Sun Conference Athletic Director of the Year the league announced on Wednesday.
 
Swogger, a two-time Sun Conference Athletic Director of the Year (2016-17; 2022-23), guided Keiser to this year's Sun Conference Commissioner's Cup (the program's fourth such award), scoring 177 points between the top four men's and women's sports.
 
"I want to thank Dr. Arthur Keiser, Dr. Gary Vonk, and the Keiser University Administration for backing our department and for giving us the support needed to create a culture of excellence," Swogger said. "I'm honored to receive this award on behalf of our staff, as I view this as a department award versus an individual award.  This honor is a result of the tremendous staff within the Keiser Athletic Department. We strive to be the best athletic department in the nation year in and year out. This year is no exception. I'm proud of the hard work our staff, coaches, and student-athletes have put forth throughout the entire year, making this honor possible."

"Keiser Athletics had an outstanding year under his leadership, continuing to place the Seahawks among the NAIA elite. He is truly deserving of this award."
 
During the 2022-23 season, the Seahawks claimed three NAIA National Championships (men's swimming, women's swimming, and men's lacrosse) while winning six Sun Conference regular season titles and eight tournament championships (men's soccer - regular season and tournament; women's soccer - regular season and tournament; women's lacrosse - regular season; football - regular season; men's tennis - regular season and tournament; women's tennis - regular season and tournament; men's golf – tournament; women's golf – tournament; men's swimming – tournament; women's swimming -tournament).
 
This past year, the Seahawks garnered 17 individual NAIA National Champions and eight relay National Champions while 17 teams made NAIA postseason appearances. In the classroom, the Seahawks posted department-wide 3.13 GPA and boasted 142 academic all-conference selections, 115 NAIA Scholar-Athletes and 41 CSC Academic All-Americans.  
 
During Swogger's tenure, Keiser grew from 242 student-athletes (fall 2012) to 833 during the 2022-23 academic year. The Seahawks also saw an increase in NAIA varsity sports offered, going from 11 to 26. Overall, Keiser has 1,058 all-conference athletes, 694 academic all-conference honorees, 643 All-Americans, 367 NAIA Scholar-Athletes, and 15 NAIA National Championships.
