No. 1 Women's Lacrosse Pulls Away from Webber Late, Advances to Sun Conference Final on Saturday

No. 1 Keiser women's lacrosse used a six-goal fourth quarter to pull away from the Webber International Warriors on Friday afternoon in the Sun Conference Semifinal. Three hat tricks from Hayley Frew, Abbey Cannon, and Chloe Foley led the way for Keiser in a dominant 16-9 victory.
 

 
First Quarter
Keiser 5, Webber 2
  • Keiser attacked early with Samantha Esher finding a cutting Abbey Cannon in front of the net who fired in the first goal of the game with 13:01 on the clock.
  • One minute later, Chloe Foley created a turnover and took it all the way by herself to make it 2-0 for Keiser.
  • Just two minutes after that, Hayley Frew brushed through the defense before beating the keeper and making it 3-0.
  • Webber got on the board courtesy of Bryce Gerber on a free position goal at the 7:30 mark.
  • Keiser responded with back-to-back goals from Emily McCall and Frew spanning 30 seconds to put KU up 5-1.
  • The Warriors went on to grab the final goal of the quarter to cut the lead to 5-2 heading into the second.

Second Quarter
Keiser 8, Webber 5
  • With an underhand pass from Sydney Passaro, Cannon opened the second quarter with her second goal of the day.
  • Passaro followed a minute later passing a free position chance to Cannon who found Foley in front of the net for her second of the game with 10:36 left in the second.
  • Webber countered with consecutive goals of their own to cut Keiser's lead to 7-4 with 9:23 remaining.
  • Following a third consecutive goal for the Warriors, Frew completed her hat trick on a free position goal to make it 8-5 going into halftime.

Third Quarter
Keiser 10, Webber 6
  • Cannon opened the the third quarter with an assist to Talia Myers who faked and then beat the keeper to increase the Seahawks lead to 9-5.
  • Seven minutes passed before Webber converted a free position goal to make it 9-6 with 7:40 remaining in the third.
  • With under 10 seconds to play, Kamille Thomas scooped up a loose ball and found MacKenzie Gibaud who went above the defense to tally her first of the game and give Keiser a 10-6 lead going into the fourth.

Fourth Quarter
Keiser 16, Webber 9
  • Esher got the scoring started for Keiser in the fourth with her 24th goal of the season following a long run out and pass from Foley.
  • Less than a minute later, Esher picked up a loose ball and fired her 25th goal of the season into the back of the net to make it 12-6 with 13:20 left to play.
  • Cannon continued the Keiser run with her hat trick goal, beating her defender from behind the net and finding the back of the net with 12:14 on the clock.
  • One minute later, Esher spun off her defender and found Foley who one-timed it into the net for her third of the game.
  • The goals continued to roll in with Passaro and Gibaud each adding to the scorer's sheet.
  • Webber went on to score the final three goals of the game but it would not be enough as the Seahawks would win the game 16-9.

KU Highlights
  • 34: Keiser won the groundball battle on the day by a count of 32-21.
  • 8/4: Keiser moves to 8-1 in conference games all-time, and 4-0 in semifinals.
  • 7: Rebecca Gibson tallied seven groundballs in the game to tie a career-high mark for the defender.
  • 6: Cassidy Green got the start and the win in net, making six saves in the game.
  • 5/3/2: Both Cannon and Foley tallied five points with three goals and two assists to lead the way for the Seahawks.
  • 5: Myers led the way in the center circle, grabbing five draw controls.
  • 3: Foley made it happen on both ends of the field, recording a team-best three caused turnovers.
  • 3: Frew registered her fourth hat trick of the day to tie for the team lead in the game.
