No. 2 Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 5 SCAD in NAIA Quarterfinal, 13-11

No. 2 Keiser Women's Lacrosse fell in the NAIA Quarterfinal to No. 5 SCAD Savannah 13-11 on Wednesday night in Southfield, Michigan. 

First Quarter
Keiser 4, SCAD 5
  • Melanie Brown secured the early lead for Keiser with a goal at the 12:33 mark.
  • SCAD would respond with back-to-back goals to take the 2-1 lead with 11:05 left to play in the first.
  • The game would then enter a back and forth sequence that would last the rest of the first half beginning with a goal by Sydney Passaro at the 8:45 mark.
  • Following a Bees goal, Valeria Lomaglio tied the game 3-3 with 5:32 to play.
  • SCAD would find the back of the net again before Lomaglio tied the game at 4-4 with 2:58 remaining.
  • The Bees would score the final goal of the period to take a 5-4 lead into the second.
Second Quarter
Keiser 7, SCAD 7
  • Hayley Frew kept the pattern alive as Keiser tied the game at 5-5 six minutes into the second quarter.
  • SCAD would break the tie before KU struck again with 4:17 remaining as Brown made it a 6-6 game.
  • The Bees would score at the 2:47 mark before the Seahawks tied the game courtesy of Talia Myers to tie the game at 7-7 going into the half.
Third Quarter
Keiser 9, SCAD 11
  • Brown would open the second half with her third of the game to give Keiser an 8-7 lead just over a minute into the third.
  • SCAD followed with a 4-0 scoring run over four minutes to take an 11-8 lead with 8:41 left in the third quarter.
  • Once again, it was Brown to find the back of the net for KU and bring the Seahawks within two goals going into the fourth quarter as SCAD led 11-9.
Fourth Quarter
Keiser 11, SCAD 13
  • After 10 minutes of scoreless play, Chloe Foley brought the score to 11-10 with 4:48 left in the game.
  • Myers followed up to tie the game at 11-11 with just over two minutes on the clock.
  • With 38 seconds on the clock, the Bees found the back of the net to take the one-goal lead.
  • On the ensuing possession, Keiser attempted to force a turnover which left the defense astray allowing SCAD to score the final goal of the night and take the 13-11 win.
KU Highlights
  • 2: Myers and Stacey Marcelin were credited with two caused turnovers each in the game.
  • 2: Lomaglio, Myers, and Hannah Reeder each collected two draw controls for Keiser.
  • 3: Lena Finkelstein, Chloe Foley, Marcelin, and Reeder all tallied three groundballs in the contest. 
  • 4: Brown led Keiser with four goals and four points on the night.
  • 4: The Seahawks moved to 4-3 all-time at the NAIA National Tournament.
  • 10: Marcelin had a career-best 10 saves in net for KU.
