The No. 2 Keiser men's tennis team suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of their Division I opponent, Florida Gulf Coast Friday evening at the FGCU Tennis Complex in Fort Myers, Florida.

• The Seahawks got off to a quick start with Luke Simkiss and Bart Nouws winning on court three 6-1.
• Geronimo Barrios and Juan Marrero were bested on court one by Magnus Johnson and Max Damm, 6-2.
• FGCU earned the doubles point with a 6-3 win on court two over Yassir Kilani and Soufiane El Mesbahi to give the Eagles the 1-0 advantage.

• FGCU doubled their advantage on court six as Fred Oervad fell 0-6, 4-6.
• The Eagles struck again on court three as Kilani dropped his match 0-6, 4-6.
• FGCU clinched the win on court two with a 1-6, 2-6 win over Barrios.
• El Mesbahi stopped the shutout on court four with a 6-4, 6-2 win.
• Charly Zick moved to 4-0 on the season with a 7-6(4), 6-1 win on court five.
• Simkiss fought through a tough match on court one, coming out on top 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (11-9).

"Tough one tonight," said Head Coach, Daniel Finn, "We knew the doubles point would be crucial tonight and it proved to be the case. We started slow and forced ourselves to fight back throughout the rest of the night. Despite that, we had our opportunities tonight to get this one. This is a tough place to play. They have a good crowd that brings a lot of energy in these night matches. It's not easy to lose a close match like this, but it will make our guys better. We saw several things that we need to address before tomorrow and Sunday's matches. We will have to get home, rest, and get ready for another opportunity tomorrow."


The Seahawks will have less than 24 hours to come home and prepare for their first conference match of the season against Warner on Feb. 5 at Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton, Florida.
