In a battle of the top two teams in the NAIA, No. 1 Keiser University upended No. 2 Cumberlands, 12-6 in the Mid-South Championship game on Saturday afternoon. This is the first-ever tournament championship for the Seahawks.
Keiser 5, Cumberlands 3
- Cumberlands took advantage of their man-up chance as Bella Ricchiazzi scored an unassisted goal with 28:41 showing on the scoreboard.
- Sydney Passaro evened the game with an unassisted tally at the 18:35 mark and Madison Andrews scored on a free position shot as the Patriots took a timeout trailing, 2-1.
- Out of the stoppage, Passaro netted her second of the game off a great pass from Andrews, upping the margin to 3-1.
- CU briefly halted the run before Madison Andrews notched back-to-back goals, giving KU the 5-2 advantage with 6:28 to go in the half.
- The Patriots scored the final goal of the half, but it was Keiser leading 5-3 at the intermission of the championship game.
- Andrews led the way with three goals and one assist.
Keiser 12, Cumberlands 6
- Keiser ran off the opening four goals of the half, upping the lead to 9-3 with 19:04 left in regulation. Four different Seahawks scored during the stretch.
- Cumberlands finally stalled the run with a goal at the 17:59 mark but Melanie Brown responded with a free position conversation with 16:06 to go.
- Following six scoreless minutes, Andrews tallied her fourth goal of the game as Keiser led 11-4.
- The Seahawks saw the game off, claiming their first-ever Mid-South Tournament Championship by a final score of 12-6.
- 1: This is the first-ever Mid-South tournament championship for Keiser.
- 2: Mackenzie Gokey and Rebecca Gibson each forced two turnovers.
- 4: Andrews finished with a game-best four goals.
- 7: Talia Myers won a game-best seven draw controls.
- 8: Andrews had a game-best eight shots.
- 13: Jessica Covell made 13 saves in the victory.
- 14: Keiser won 14 draw controls in the championship, one more than CU.
