No. 6 Men's Soccer Advances to NAIA Semifinal with 3-1 Win Over Missouri Valley

The Seahawks used three second-half goals to eliminate the defending national champions as Keiser advanced to the program's first NAIA Men's Soccer Semifinal with a 3-1 win over the No. 7-ranked Missouri Valley Vikings on Thursday. 


.How it Happened
  • Missouri Valley took an early 1-0 lead with a goal by Timo Dekker in the 27th minute. 
  • The Seahawks pushed to draw the game even in the first half, forcing MVC goalkeeper Dusan Milosevic to make seven saves.
  • Keiser entered halftime, trailing for just the fourth time this season.
  • Hannu Tam tied the game, 1-1, with his fifth goal of the season in the 47th minute.
  • After a misplayed ball by the Viking's backline, Tam took on the Milosevic and chipped a shot into the back of the net.
  • Elias Jassim netted his second goal of the season, scoring the eventual game-winner in the 78th minute. 
  • Alejandro Varela Sabio took a free-kick from the right side of the MVC area, connecting with Jassim, who headed in the go-ahead goal.
  • Three minutes later, Luca Malvicini notched his seventh goal of 2021, putting the game away in the 81st minute. 
  • Malvicini struck a shot past a charging Milosevic for the Seahawk's third score of the half.
  • The goal was set up by Nick Akoto, who streaked down the right side of the field, sending a through pass to Malvicini just outside the area. 
  • KU recorded just four shots in the second half with three resulting goals.
  • Goalkeeper Dario Salzar earned his seventh win of the season, making three saves.
  • For the match, Missouri Valley out-shot Keiser, 16-12, with the Seahawks holding a 10-4 edge in shots on goal.

  • With the win, Keiser improves to 14-3-1.
  • With the win, KU advances to the NAIA Semifinals for the first time in program history. 
  • Keiser is now 8-5-2 all-time in the NAIA National Championship Tournament.
  • The Seahawks improve to 1-2-1 in NAIA Quarterfinal contests.
  • With the Vikings taking an early 1-0 lead, KU is now 3-3-0 in 2021 when the opponent scores first.
  • Thursday was the fourth time the Seahawks have trailed at the half in 2021 (2-2-0).
