Keiser men's soccer rolled past Trinity Baptist by the final score of 8-1 in the 2018 season opener on Saturday morning. A pair of freshman led the way as Ciro Damine tallied four goals and Hannu Tam added a pair.

Keiser fired off 23 shots in the opening match while holding the Eagles to just six.

How it Happened
  • The Seahawks first goal of 2018 came off a penalty kick as Sebastian Espino converted from the spot for a 1-0 advantage.
  • Tam then took over the first half by scoring two goals in the final five minutes to give Keiser a commanding a 3-0 advantage at the halftime break. Joe Rivera and Damine were credited with an assist during the span.
  • It was the Damine show during the first 25 minutes of the second half as the freshman scored four consecutive goals to lead 7-0.
  • Trinity Baptist capitalized on a defensive giveaway out of the back in the 78th minute to record their lone goal of the contest.
  • However, Daniel Ponte put an exclamation point on the game in the 80th minute with an unassisted goal, giving Keiser the 8-1 season-opening victory.
 
Game Notes
  • This is the third straight year that Keiser has hosted Trinity Baptist in their season opener.
  • The Seahawks are now 3-0-0 all-time against the Eagles and 2-0-0 under Coach Gavin Oldham in those meetings.
  • Coach Oldham has led KU to back-to-back season-opening wins.
  • Damine tied the school record for the most goals scored in a game with four. The last time it was done was in 2012 by Marcus Johnasson against Johnson & Wales.
  • The eight goals scored this afternoon were the third most in program history and the most since the 2007 opener against Florida College when the Seahawks notched 11.
  • Keiser's eight goals were also the most scored in the game since 2012 when they found the back of the net on nine occasions against Clearwater Christian.
  • Seven of the eight goals scored by the Seahawks came from players off the bench.
  • Joan Carles Perez picked up his first win in a Seahawks uniform as he played the opening 45 minutes in goal.
  • Damine led the way with a game-best six shots with four of those being on frame.

Oldham said, "We are happy with the result today as multiple guys were able to find the back of the net. The victory shows that all the hard work during the preseason really paid off. I am happy with the energy and contribution that guys brought off the bench. Our depth will be something that we can lean on as we go forward this season."
