Keiser University knocked off Trinity Baptist 3-1 in their season opener on Wednesday afternoon. The Seahawks are now 1-0-0 and return to action on Wednesday against No. 14 Spring Arbor.

Turning Point
With ten minutes remaining in regulation and the scored tied at 1-1, Matthew Iles dribbled down the right side of the field and had his cross deflect off a Trinity Baptist defender and into the back of the net for a 2-1 lead.

How it Happened
  • Keiser had the game's first scoring opportunity in the 15th minute when Jake Stanton's header was cleared off the line by a TBC defender, keeping the game scoreless.
  • In the 19th minute with the Seahawks outshooting the Eagles 5-0, the game went into a 30 minute delay due to lightning in the area.
  • After play resumed, Trinity Baptist broke through in the 38th minute, when Joshua Briones crossed the ball in from the left side and Mylens Calixte buried it into the upper corner, for a 1-0 lead.
  • However, The Seahawks needed just 1:31 to grab the equalizer on Gabriel Souza's first career goal. Ahmet Brown played a long ball into the box and Diego Menendez had his header saved but Souza was right there for the rebound.
  • The second half was scoreless until the Trinity Baptist own goal in the 80th minute and then Henry Brzycki put a stamp on the game with his first career goal in the 88th minute off an assist by Joe Rivera.

Coach's Corner
Coach Oldham said, "To be fair I don't think it will go down as our best performance of the season but it's good to get the season started with a victory and build some confidence. We created a lot of scoring opportunities but really never capitalized on them, the game really should have been put to bed a long time before we did. It's good to see some of the new faces in the team play big parts in the win and it gives us something to build on going into our next game."
