Softball Splits Home Opener With Coastal Georgia

The Keiser University softball team split their home opener with Coastal Georgia on Sunday afternoon. The Seahawks moved to 1-3 overall on the year.

Game 1: Keiser University beat Coastal Georgia 4-3.
  • Keiser got on the board in the first on an RBI single to second by Meagan Flores scoring Alyssa Cabral for a 1-0 lead.
  • The Mariners tied it at 1-1 in the fourth on a double to left center.
  • The Seahawks retook a 3-1 advantage in the bottom half on a two run homer to left by Taylor Beckman scoring pinch runner Erica Williams.
  • Coastal Georgia platted a run in the fifth and sixth innings knotting the game at 3-3.
  • A bunt to third by Shanah Thomas and a fielding error by the first basemen allowed Beckman to score going back ahead 4-3, in the sixth.
  • For the third time in the game, Coastal Georgia tied it at 4-4 with a one out single to left field in the seventh.
  • In the bottom half with one out, back to back singles by Tyler Thomas and Flores put runners on the second and third. Cassidy Miller then loaded up the bases with a walk, and Beckman singled to center field platting Tara Coletti winning 4-3.
  • Beckman had a game high three hits, T. Thomas, Cabral, and Flores had two apiece.
  • Allison Williams picked up the win throwing two innings of relief.
Game 2: Coastal Georgia defeated Keiser 6-5
  • Coastal Georgia jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on a two out single to center field.
  • Nicole Granitto, Kylie Waters, and S. Thomas all singled with one out in the second to load the bases. Heather Shapiro then hit a 1-0 grand slam to left field to go in front 4-1.
  • The Mariners platted four in the fourth to retake a 5-4 lead.
  • A fielding error in right field allowed S. Thomas to score on a single by Cabral tying it at 5-5 in the fourth.
  • In the seventh, Coastal Georgia scored the game winning run on a fielder's choice to third base winning 6-5.
  • Shapiro and S. Thomas led the way with two hits apiece.
