The Northwood softball team concluded their 2015 season on Sunday afternoon while honoring their seniors in between games. The Seahawks suffered a heart breaking 3-2 loss in eight innings in game one and a tough 2-1 defeat in game two.
The five players that were honored were, Nicole Lewis, Anne Diercks, Heimy Espinal, Rachel Dirks, and Jaime Schiller.
Game One
St. Thomas scored a run in the fourth, before Northwood tied it at 1-1 in the seventh inning. Espinal singled to center platting Alyssa Cabreal, but Tara Colettiwas thrown out at the plate trying to score from second knotting it at 1-1. The Bobcats though, came back scoring two runs in the eighth, but the Seahawks again attempted another comeback.
Dirks and Alex Hartley reached base with two outs and a dropped ball by the center fielder cut the deficit to 3-2. However, Northwood was unable to get another run.
Dirks went the complete game on the mound, and led the team in hits with two.
Game Two
The Bobcats scored their lone runs of the game in the first for a 2-0 lead when Northwood staged a late comeback in the seventh inning.  With one out, Meagan Flores, Alyssa Cabral, and Ryleigh Williams all reached to load the bases. Dirks singled to center scoring Flores but Cabral was thrown out at home trying to tie the game from second.  The Bobcats were then able to secure the final out, holding off Northwood.
Diercks threw a complete game in the circle.
Northwood concludes the season with a 14-29-1 overall record and 0-15 Sun Conference mark.Â
