Seahawks Men's Soccer Plays to Tie, Falls Short in Penalty Kicks to Embry-Riddle

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Northwood University (Fla.) men's  soccer team played to a 2-2 tie, and then fell short in penalty kicks to visiting Embry-Riddle in a hard-fought game to in the Sun Conference quarterfinals on Saturday.

The Seahawks, the No. 4 seed, played to a 2-2 tie after both teams were held scoreless in the second half and during the two overtime sessions. The Eagles, the No. 5 seed, advanced on penalty kicks, 9-8.

The Seahawks scored 5:47 into the first half to take an early lead as Sami Lahinten finished with an assist from Alan McCann.

The Eagles responded with two goals to take the lead.

Mark Voisin tied the score with less than three minutes before the intermission with assists by Jesse Alves and Vinnie Cainth.

The two teams were both unable to score in the second half and during the two overtime sessions.

The Seahawks had 15 shots and six shots on goal while the Eagles registered 15 shots and seven shots on goal.

Seahawks goalkeeper Mark Dawson made four saves.

The Seahawks defeated Embry-Riddle 1-0 on November 1.

The Northwood men's soccer team will receive an automatic bid to the NAIA National Soccer Tournament as the host representative in Delray Beach starting on December 1.
